Two more persons, including a boy, killed separately
AT GLANCE: On June 21 and 22, another boy and a man were murdered in separate incidents in Davao City. The boy was reported to have been murdered by mistake as it is supposed to be his brother who was the target by vigilante group. His mother knew who could be responsible for the murder. Meanwhile, the man was murdered for filing a complaint against another person. His wife could do nothing but blame the attackers.
Case No. 1: Boy killed by mistaken identity
Victim: Frits Banual, 15 years old, resident of Purok Taurus, Lasang, Davao City
Date: 22 June at 6 p.m.
On June 22, a grade five pupil named Frits Banual, 15, died after he was shot by still unidentified men, one of them was allegedly a member of the Davao Death Squad in Purok Taurus, Lasang, Davao City.
Information gathered from the Bunawan police precinct showed that Banual, grade five pupil of the Navarro Elementary School, was on his way home at around 6 p.m. with his cousin named May Ann onboard a tricycle driven by his father when the incident happened.
SPO1 Mariano Operario, prober of the Bunawan police precinct, said two unidentified men waylaid the tricycle just a few meters before it could reach the victim’s house. The men, without provocation, jointly shot Banual, who died instantly for gunshot wounds in his head and body.
Banual’s father told police that one of the suspects said “dili man ni mao (this is not the one),” before the suspects fled on foot to unknown direction.
Police recovered four empty shells of a caliber pistol at the scene of crime.
On the other hand, Banual’s mother, Celina, claimed that his son could have been mistaken by the suspects as his another son, who is now in Cotabato City. She said she knew his son’s perpetrator and identified him as one “Badol”, who was, according to her, a member of the Davao Death Squad responsible of the vigilitante-style killings in the city.
“Si Badol mao na’y tigpamusil sa dose (Km. 12, Sasa) gipangita niya akong isa ka anak nga tua na sa Cotabato (Badol is responsible in the shootings in Km. 12, Sasa. He is looking after my another son who is now in Cotabato City),” Celina disclosed.
She, however, did not mention as to why his another son in Cotabato City is being targeted by Badol.
Police are making further investigations to confirm Celina’s statement and to identify the other suspect of the incident.
Case No. 2: Shot dead for filing a complaint
Victim: Joel Cabrera, 42, resident of Dominga Village, Calinan, Davao City
Date: 21 June at 7 p.m.
Probers of the Calinan police precinct have yet to establish the motive of the killing of one Joel Cabrera, 42, and tricycle driver along Lara Street in Calinan, Davao City on June 21.
But they claimed that revenge may be one of the motives of the killing as Cabrera has filed a complaint against someone before, whom they failed to name in order not to preempt their on-going investigation.
Initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Danilo Mendez, the incident happened at around 7 p.m. when Cabrera was driving his tricycle.
While Cabrera was along Lara Street in Calinan, just a few meters away from the Iglesia Ni Cristo church, one of the two unidentified men, who was in the area, shot him several times with undetermined caliber.
Witnesses said the suspects fled onboard a motorcycle after the incident.
A co-driver of Cabrera tried to save the latter by bringing him to the Issac Robillo General Hospital, but the victim, who suffered gunshot wounds in his arm and body, also died while undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, Cabrera’s wife, Mercedita, could do nothing but to blame the attackers for killing her husband.
“Inyo na mang nakuha gyud, nalipay na mo karon (You’ve got what you wanted, you should be happy by now),” she said.
