Shot in front of his sister
AT GLANCE: This victim, who had been previously detained for theft at the city jail, was shot on the head in front of his sister. A week before he was murdered, as friend of him, was also murdered in the same village where they lived. This victim sister had already forewarned him to take precautions amidst the series of “vigilante killings” recently, but the attackers still caught up with him.
Victim: Danilo Auguis, 38; of Guinoo Subdivison, Barangay Bula
Date: May 26 at 6:30pm in his village
Danilo Auguis was together with his sister, Gina, in their place when an unknown man had approached them. The man had asked whether they know one alias Jun Jorie. At that time, Danilo was doing barbeque outside their house. Since they did not know who the person the man was looking for, Gina they told the man to ask the people staying farther ahead instead.
But as Gina was entering their house after talking to the said man, the latter shot her brother on the head with a .45 calibre pistol. When he fell dead to the ground, the gunman came close to him and finished him off. The gunman had had escaped onboard a motorcycle waiting nearby.
“Paglipot nako sa iya nakit-an gyud nako ang burot sa armas sa iyang kiliran, samtang sa unahan dunay laing motorsiklo ang naghulat, igo lang ko nakatikang nakadungog na ko sa tulo ka mga buto sa armas, tapad ra gyud ko ang akong igsuon sa dihang gipusil, ang mga suspek yano lang kaayo nga naglakaw daw wala lay nahitabo (As I turn to his (gunman) back, I saw his firearm on his wait while closely there was a motorcycle waiting for him. As I was about to leave, I heard three shots. I was just next to my brother when they shot him. The suspect just calmly left as if nothing happens),” said Gina in Cebuano.
Danilo had previously been detained at the city’s jail for three months after having been charged for theft of mobile phone. He, however was released after the said stolen item was returned to the owner. A week before Danilo’s murder, as friend of his was also murdered in Asai Village in the same village.
